workbench diy | Versatile Saw Benches More Than a Couple of Old Horses Part 4 Some Final Touches

We are close to being finished just a few final touches. I chamfered the ends of the legs to prevent splitting while also trimming them so they are level. To be real accurate you need a flat assembly table or work bench large enough to do this. Not all floors are level so it is up to you how much you want to do but it is better to not have them rock. I also smoothed all the edges with a block plane, removed any excess glue with a chisel and tidied things up a bit. I added the upper rail along the top and screwed it in. I lapped a bottom rail for the angled legs to add dimensional stability and screwed that in as well. I bored a couple of holes in the top to accommodate a hold fast so as to hold my work secure. I will use these in some up and coming posts. They work well for sawing and boring holes but I have not yet scratched the surface of what can be done with these.

Chamfering the legs and edges.

Cleaning up the top with plane and saw.

Making sure the top rail is flush with the top.

Top rail on.

Making laps on lower side rail.

Boring holes for hold fasts.

Finish boring from bottom for a clean hole.

Finished holes for hold fasts.

Finished pair of saw benches.

In a configuration to rip boards.
